It started off as a drizzly day, but it didn’t keep the dedicated gardeners of Secaucus away.
The Secaucus Environmental Department held a garden gathering this past Sunday, July 27, at the Imagine Garden located at 44 Meadowlands Parkway.
From 1 to 2 pm, residents were invited to join their fellow community gardeners for a celebration, conversation, and walk through of the raised garden beds. Around two dozen folks braved the light rain to gather for refreshments at the gazebo, getting a chance to meet one another. For many, it was their first time meeting each other and learning what everyone was growing.

After the rain passed, attendees took the chance to walk through the various plots, which are each individually maintained by residents in town.
The community gardens throughout Secaucus, of which there are 5, give residents the opportunity to grow flowers, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Many appreciate this opportunity, especially given the limited green space at homes or apartments.
Some plots are decorated with gnomes or painted rocks, and others are bursting at the seams with greenery. But what they all had in common was a hearty harvest.
Many attendees admired the 10-foot tall sunflowers, which were attracting dozens of honey bees. Who knows, perhaps they will be helping to make some of the town’s very own famous honey!
As the event came to a close, gardeners were seen carrying bags of their harvest, with some even exchanging produce.
The garden gathering was a resounding success according to those who stopped by, and the Environmental Department hopes to hold additional events as the season progresses so stay tuned for the next event!
