Residents of the Xchange at Secaucus Junction complex found themselves unexpectedly dealing with late-night noise this week as Hudson County began roadwork on County Road Ext. The road, a major artery for commercial traffic and Secaucus residents accessing the Secaucus Junction train station, is undergoing a much-needed repaving and handicap ramp upgrade.
The Secaucus Scoop reached out to the Hudson County Engineer’s office to learn more about the project. According to a representative, the project is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete, with milling already finished and paving and striping set to be done within the next two weeks. While the road will have lane closures, it will remain open to traffic throughout the project.
Some residents took to Facebook to express their frustration, questioning the necessity of the late-night noise.
Mayor Michael Gonnelli stepped into the online conversation, assuring residents he would look into the matter. The incident highlights the challenges of balancing essential infrastructure projects with the needs of residents, especially in a growing town like Secaucus.
The County confirmed that no public hearings were held for this routine milling and paving project. As for parking, the street will be designated as a no-parking zone for the duration of the construction. Residents are advised to seek alternate routes and parking options.
